Illustrated Map of Michigan's Upper Peninsula

This is one of my very favorite projects of 2014 - an illustrated map of natural landmarks for Things To Do In The U.P.! is a website run by Jesse and Erica Land, who are on a mission to do 1,000 things in the U.P. and are chronicling them all online, accompanied by insider details and gorgeous photography.

For this project, my clients wanted to highlight the Upper Peninsula's plentiful natural landmarks. I hand-illustrated the Porcupine Mountains and Eben Ice Caves; cliff-jumping at Blackrocks; Kitch-iti-kipi, the crystal-clear natural spring where you can see 40 feet to the bottom; the legendary Tahquamenon Falls and Pictured Rocks; a  tiny moose on Isle Royale, and many more natural wonders. It was really fun to work on because I have childhood memories of visiting some of these places with my family, and it inspired me to visit many of the places I haven't yet seen.  A northern odyssey is definitely in my future.
